What it’s like staying inside a Castle in Ireland

Dromoland Castle and what it's like to stay inside in Ireland in July

STAYING INSIDE DROMOLAND CASTLE

I highly recommend saving the best for last on any trip.  We started in Dublin, then into Killarney, and then onto Dromoland Castle near Ennis, Ireland.  From the minute you arrive, you are transported.  They literally roll out the red carpet with a fleet of employees offering champagne, and knighting the kids with swords.  It was truly the experience of a lifetime and one we’ll always cherish as a family.  I highly recommend Dromoland Castle.

WHAT TO DO AT DROMOLAND CASTLE

You can fish right off the property.  You just check out fishing poles and life vests, and take one of the row boats.  The boys had quite a few on the line, but only caught one.  I went the first day with them, then opted for a facial the second time they went.

Speaking of the facial.  I didn’t expect the spa to be as lovely as it was.  You’re greeted with sorbet and a warm towel, then transported to the most cozy rooms.  I never fall asleep during treatments and I was OUT for mine.  I felt like a million bucks after.  After your treatment they take you to these massage beds.  They give you tea, chocolate, and coloring books.

The grounds are truly so beautiful and vast.  The gardens go on and on.  My boys loved playing soccer all over the grounds.

Hiking trails – you have so many.  You could truly get lost!

Falconry was a highlight for our family.  Our guide was so knowledgable I felt like we were part of national geographic show.  You get to interact with falcons, hawks, and owls.  You then go on a hawk walk with a hawk and feed him throughout.  My boys had so much fun with this!

Horseback riding through fields of lambs at Castlefergus!  This was such a beautiful ride through the countryside.

Tea at Dromoland Castle is an experience you have to do!  It’s over the top and so lovely!

Archery was quite fun.  They pick you up in a rugged range rover and take you to a target and fit you for your bow.

Cliffs of Moher – we hired a private driver to take us up to the Cliffs.  They are gorgeous and we loved the hike.

Golfing – while we didn’t do this, it is definitely recommended!

Where we ate in DROMOLAND

The Fig Tree – This was a great spot and the boys could play in the garden while we ate on the porch.  I loved the food here!

Earl of Thomond – we had tea here and also all of our breakfasts.  It was so lovely!

Brogans – we ate here  but would not recommend it.  It was super salty and gave JB and I applebees vibes!  But so many people said to go here… so maybe we just had bad luck.

We had a private dinner in their hall that was so special!  This was through JB’s work.

If you need packing help with Ireland, I’ve outlined that all right here.
