10 activities for keeping preschoolers busy

1-0 activities for keeping preschoolers busyJust a couple activity ideas for preschoolers that aren’t the TV (:

If it’s messy project I set it up on the boys outdoor/paint table, if not I’ll just have it set up on his table.  Here are a few ideas.

  1. paint projects – those little ceramic or small board with the preset paints.  I love these being seasonal.  You can always find them at Hobby Lobby and Target.  The boys also loves these watercolor Melissa and Doug books.
  2. Wiki Sticks – Wes loves these.  Sometimes I find him playing with them on his own, and sometimes he’s asking me to make certain things out of them.  These are great for travel!
  3. Sooper Beads – I’ll have them separate by color with different colored cups.  Or just play with them in the water.  I’ve also put a little inexpensive bag of dinos for them in a big tub of these to sift through to find.
  4. Play Doh – What kid doesn’t love play doh?  this is definitely set up outside though!
  5. Magnatiles – They are expensive (I wonder if the generic brand is just as good, probably is!) but they are the most played with thing in our house.  They are always making houses and bridges and train tracks, etc.
  6. ABC puzzle – Something fun for the boys to do together.  Love seeing Tuck be wesley’s teacher (:
  7. We have a board just like this to help with colors – this one has shapes too.
  8. Playful Patterns –  we have this one I found at a thrift store, but since it’s “vintage” the price is way up.  Both boys love Tangrams – so I bought this for travel.   This melissa and doug set is a great alternative to the Playful Patterns one.  I have this old book with tangrams and the story of the three little pigs, Tuck loves.  Tangrams help teach children spatial relationships, shapes, and the beginning of geometry.  But mostly at this age, my kids just thing they are fun.
  9. Montessori Safari – My mom gave this to us, and the boys love it.  But they are obsessed with animals in general!
  10. A piece of yarn.  Lol.  seriously, my kids are obsessed with yarn and making “traps” … it’s sort of a pain to un tangle the trap up but it keeps them busy busy busy

Would love to hear some more ideas!
