*affiliate links used in this post*I grew up reading a ton. I just really loved to read, and there’s still few things better than a dog eared worn book to me. But then I had kids and it was harder to take the time for novels. Unless it’s just JB and I traveling. My mom suggested audible a few years ago, and I have been hooked. I have the subscription. It’s $15 a month and you get one book per month. Your first month is free if you do a trial! I love audible because you can immediately (or not so immediately) return your book in an instant if you a. don’t like the book or b. can’t handle the narrator. I don’t listen if my kids are around, but in the car on the way to pick up, while doing chores, cooking, or putting on make up… it is a fun way to engage my mind a bit. It also syncs up with my amazon tap, so I can take it anywhere in the house and not drain my phone battery.
here are some of my faves!
- Girl wash your face. I just recently finished this. Sometimes I find some “self help” books hard to get through. But I couldn’t get enough of Rachel Hollis, her realness, and straight forward tone. I think all my ladies should listen to this. Mother or not, her story applies and will be helpful to you.
- Before we were yours: This was inspired by a true story. Once I found that out I was researching the heck out of the plot. It’s a heartbreaking story but with a good sweet ending. For sure a tear jerker, but I couldn’t recommend it enough.
- Capital Gaines: I love chip and joanna, though I’ve only seen a couple episodes of their show, fixer uppper. Chip narrates this, so I think that makes it even better. Joanna’s book is another one I love – he chimes in, and she narrates it.
- A simplified life by Emily Ley : So many great tips about how to simplify your life! Lots of practical advice I’ve applied since listening.
- Sister’s First: Politics aside, you’ll love this. The twins read their accounts, plus laura bush reads her forward. It’s a beautiful book about family most of all, and how it is every.thing.
- Little Fire’s Everywhere: I just saw that they are making this into a movie and I’m excited. This took me a bit to get into it, but once I did I couldn’t stop.
- Big Little Lies: at this point I have read or listened to all of liane’s books. She is the most engaging author and this book will blow your mind.
- The Power of Vulnerability by Brene Brown: Brene reads this – it’s such a great book for anyone, but I think especially for parents. I love Brene.
- Simplicty Parenting : a great parenting book I often refer back to. I fail at this all of the time, but it’s something to strive for.
Any ones you would suggest??
