I didn’t know baby wearing was a thing before I had kids. Isn’t it just something you do so your baby (if she or he likes it) stays calm, you can get some things done, and you can get out easily. It isn’t a dividing line! I would have loved if Tuck was into the stroller as a baby. But, nope. Wes is much more chill (in general) and is okay with the stroller. But I still wear him most of the time because it’s easier on me. It’s also really comforting to me to know he’s right there. Another reason I love it, especially when they are tiny, is that I feel people are less likely to touch my baby when we’re out. While I’m not as much of a stickler at six months, BUT when babies are newborns – just, no, please. I’ve tried a ton of different carriers in my two and a half years of baby raising – lots of different ones for different times. Here are my favorites:
1. Solly wrap c/o: This has got to be the softest wrap! I love how they are stylish enough that you can make it work around what you are wearing. For longer periods of time, I like this best when they are small versus the Lalabu Baby. It’s also great if you have a summer baby or live in Florida as it’s made of breathable fabric. The con of this wrap is it can be confusing at first. I’m not sure I ever truly mastered it with Tuck but I’ve gotten it down with Wesley. Side note: this pictures shows my first glass of wine since Wesley was born! Thanks to Solly for making it possible (;
2. LalaBu Baby c/o: I love love loved this when wesley was itty bitty. I was able to get a ton done, put a little make up on, and he happily snoozed in it. While it’s tight (size one or two sizes up!), it’s so simple. No wrapping involved. The con with this one is there’s really no back support. So once baby is a certain size, it is no longer comfortable for more than ten minutes. This happened around 6 weeks with Wesley.
3. Ergo: This is a great carrier! So much back support and perfectly safe for baby from infancy (with an insert) into toddlerhood. I used it until tuck was one and a half years old. I’ve discretely nursed both babes in this carrier. This is the one I took to Sicily when Tuck was six months and to Mexico when Wesley was two months – nursed in both airports and no one was the wiser. It’s also super easy to figure out. And gender neutral – so JB can wear it! The con with this one is it doesn’t face outward. Unless you buy the 360 – which I haven’t tried but hear great things about.
4. Honest-x-Beco carrier: This is the one I use the most with Wesley. It can safely be worn facing out, facing in, on the back or on the side. Especially now that Wesley is older, wide eyed and alert when we’re out – the facing out option is great for us. You can also nurse in it (though I think the Ergo is more discreet if that’s something you care about). And they just made three different leopard print options. I sold my navy one and bought the cream leopard. I think the new models also have softer fabric than the first. The con with this is it took a bit for me to figure it out. It has safety locks (which is a good thing but makes it confusing at first) so clasping it in and out is a two handed thing. I also wish it had a little front pouch like the ergo does so I could put my phone, wallet and keys in there. {bunny slippers are boden}
5. The Chicco Close to you carrier (c/o) – has been great for JB. He loves putting wes in there – usually forward facing. I can see this working for a long time much like the ergo. He also loves that it’s not girly (:
