I’m at the stage in my life where buying Christmas gifts early is a gift I give to my future self. I find this especially important for the people who can be tricky to buy for and also for those whom I really want to find the perfect gift. I’ve learned to start early and tackle the hardest recipients first.

After hearing from many of you over the years, it seems your mother or mother-in-law often falls on the list of “tricky” people to shop for. So I’m starting off this year’s gift guide series with the best gifts for her—an exhaustive list for moms, mothers-in-law, sisters, daughters, and sisters-in-law. These are all tried-and-true gifts that I’ve received and/or gifted, and everyone always loves them!

11 Best Gifts for Her

Without further ado, these are the top 11 gifts that made the cut. A few of these can be personalized, and others tend to sell out quickly, so it’s never too early to shop. Plus, having gifts checked off your list in September and October feels so good when the busy holiday season hits!

1. Birthstone Necklace

We bought this birthstone necklace for my mother when she turned 70. And this year, when she turned 75, we sent it back to have the latest birthstone additions added (more grandkids!). The process was super simple.

This necklace is dainty but sturdy in construction, sentimental, and special. It’s a piece she can wear daily and cherish forever.

2. Alice Walk Cashmere Wrap

I don’t know any female who wouldn’t love an Alice Walk wrap as a gift. From their lightweight wraps to their heavier cashmere options, you really can’t go wrong. You also won’t find higher quality or prettier colors. This is one of the best gifts for her that’s both beautiful and useful.

3. A Great Hairbrush

I became a brush fanatic at a young age while visiting my aunt in Jackson, MS. She bought me this super fancy boar bristle brush that I used for years, until I sadly lost it in college. I have tried most of the ones you hear about these days, and they all have their upsides and different uses.

A La Bonne brush is the most stylish and luxe option. My sister gifted me one for my birthday a few years ago, and ever since then, I feel like I’ve seen them everywhere. It’s beautiful and 100% boar bristle—great for making your hair shiny and resetting hair after a day out.

When it comes to an iconic brush, you can’t beat a Mason Pearson. It costs a pretty penny, but it’s one of those brushes you’ll have forever. I used one once after a humid day going in and out of AC and immediately ordered one for myself. I’ve had it since 2020. It’s a mix of boar bristles and nylon, and they’re handmade.

A bargain for what it is, the Teleties brushes are wonderful. They made their debut this year, and I was immediately so impressed! The designs are economical, and they work really well. I especially love the detangler brushes, which are individualized for different hair types—thin, medium, or thick. These are also the brushes my sons reach for, and they come in fun colors, so pick one up in her favorite hue!

Lastly, a travel hairbrush is another great gift option. I’m not sure when it happened, but I’ve become a lady who carries a hairbrush in her handbag at all times. This detangler is beautiful!

4. Beautiful Fruit Bowl

A beautiful fruit bowl makes a great gift for her because it’s something she’ll use every day! However, you do need to find one that’s just right for the recipient. I keep bananas, avocados, apples, oranges, etc. in this big bowl in the middle of our kitchen island. I love the texture it adds to the space. I sometimes look at it, spilling over with fresh fruit, and it fills me up with gratitude.

I also love this one I found a few years ago in Marbella and these Homespun ones my sister-in-law gave me last year for my birthday. I usually keep onions, potatoes, etc. in those! And if she loves Spongeware, this one is beautiful.

5. A Really Nice Robe

A really nice robe is another gift that she will use every day. I know it’s cliché—I think SNL has a whole skit on getting moms robes…but it’s true! I use one every day.

My most-used style is this scallop robe from Weezie. I’ve had it since 2020 and wear it every morning after my shower. I do live in a warm climate, so I like that this one is lightweight. However, if someone is cold-natured or wants something more plush, this one is gorgeous.

6. Add To Her Collection

If she already has a collection started, add to it, or start her on one! Not surprisingly, I love plates and have had different collections of Ginori given to me throughout the years. I use them every day and display them, so the cost per use is pretty good.

I also love the idea of a Herend collection. My mother always gives me a piece of Wedgwood, and it’s sprinkled throughout my house. And of course, my Tricia Lowenfield pieces are brought out for every special occasion, and new additions are always exciting.

Keep in mind, you do have to purchase these gifts for her as soon as possible in order to get them in time for Christmas.

7. Special Piece of Art

I love these bespoke lover’s eye portraits by my friend Meg Carter. You can read all about them here. I especially love them from my history-loving-heart perspective. Meg surprised me with a portrait of our puppy Samantha’s sweet eye, and I love it mixed in with my other vases and framed photos. You could have your child’s, husband’s, dear friend’s, or pet’s eye turned into a portrait.

8. Scripture Cards

Camilla Moss gave me her scripture cards years ago, and I love switching them out every few weeks. I keep them by my kitchen window, and the boys have some next to their beds. I think they make such a thoughtful gift for her.

9. Gorgeous Pair of Flats

I am a Margaux super fan. I’ve worn their shoes all over Europe, Asia, and of course, at home. They’re the most comfortable and stylish flats I’ve ever tried! I love the idea of gifting a mom, sister, or friend a classic pair of shoes that she’ll reach for and wear for years. Be sure to check out my Margaux post for sizing and fit information.

10. Framed Photo

In my opinion, we don’t frame enough photos. Too often, they stay on our phones and never make it to print. I always use Framebridge to frame pictures for our home and as gifts for family and friends. You simply upload the image, choose the finishes, and you’ve got a sentimental and personalized gift!

11. Le Lion Cardigan

When it comes to personalized gifts for her, it’s hard to beat a beautiful Le Lion cardigan. The quality is excellent, the color options are beautiful, and the beading and thread details are unlike any other. This would make such a special gift for any mom, MIL, friend, or sister.
