Chances are you’ve heard people raving about Dudley Stephens on Instagram for the past few years. This brand is extremely well-known on social media and I promise you, it’s for a good reason. If you’ve ever wondered whether or not Dudley Stephens fleece is worth the hype, I’m here to tell you, yes, it absolutely is (in my opinion, at least!) Not only is this brand full of chic and classic clothing, but it is also female-founded, sustainably sourced, and gives back to the community. Honestly, there are so many reasons why I love Dudley Stephens. I couldn’t squeeze all my thoughts into one Instagram post, so I decided they needed a permanent spot here on the blog! Today I’m going to share my honest Dudley Stephens review featuring sizing, care instructions, fabric options, and how to style their fleece products.
Why I Love Dudley Stephens
Before diving into my Dudley Stephens review, I wanted to share more about the women behind this brand and everything they have built. This company was launched in 2015 by sisters Lauren Stephens and Kaki McGrath with their mother, Bonnie. These women noticed a gap in the fleece clothing market and my goodness, did they fill that gap! Not only have they founds ways to make fleece (and now other fabrics) elevated and effortlessly chic, but they did so with a focus on sustainability. Their products are made with recycled materials and they have helped recycle over 6 million plastic water bottles to date! How amazing is that!?
Additionally, Dudley Stephens gives back to the community through their DS Gives program. Their partnership with St. Jude has raised over $200,000 to advance their mission of “Finding cures. Saving children.” They also support other female-founded companies through collaboration and promotion and prioritize diversity in their advertising and marketing. Are you starting to get what all of the hype is about? Simply put, Dudley Stephens is an amazing company!
Dudley Stephens Fleece Turtlenecks
After eying Dudley Stephens products for quite awhile, I finally took the plunge and purchased a fleece turtleneck a few years back. And now I’m hooked! In full disclosure, I was a little hesitant as to whether or not the products would live up to the hype. I’m happy to report they absolutely do!
Over the years I have worn Dudley Stephens everywhere from the slopes in Switzerland to Disney World to Montana. You might not instantly think of fleece turtlenecks when picturing outfits for a girl living in Florida, but I’ve found myself turning to Dudley Stephens so much more than I expected. I even love wearing them on the tennis courts! My favorite aspect of their fleece products is how they instantly make me feel chic and elegant, while also being super easy and comfortable. They also make wonderful gifts for mothers, mothers-in-law, and girlfriends. My overall Dudley Stephens fleece review is that they are wonderful, high-quality products!
Dudley Stephens Sizing
I think one of the hardest parts of trying out a new brand is figuring out the sizing. From my experience, most Dudley Stephens products fit relatively TTS. Luckily, they have a very detailed fit guide that walks through sizing in great detail. For their iconic fleece turtlenecks (Park Slope, Greenpoint, and Cobble Hill), I recommend wearing your typical size. But, if you’re between sizes or prefer a roomier fit, I would size up. Their latest launch includes some adorable new items and I’ve detailed the sizing of each below.
Mercer Turtleneck
I am crushing hard on this new Dudley Stephens style! The belted waist is not only flattering, but it adds elegance to even the simplest of outfits. I’ve paired it with the new Dudley Stephens leggings (featured below), but it also looks great with jeans or a long skirt. I’m wearing the camel color turtleneck in vello fleece and It fits me TTS.
Park Slope Turtleneck
If I had to pick one favorite style from Dudley Stephens, the Park Slope turtleneck would be the winner. It is a shorter version of their signature style and I love that I’m able to tuck it into jeans or wear it untucked with a tennis skirt. I’m wearing the cream color in terry fleece. It fits me TTS, but if you’re between sizes or like a roomier fit, I would recommend sizing up.
Monte Mod Turtleneck and Palisades Pants
The Monte Mod Turtleneck is such a fun twist on the classic Dudley Stephens style. I love the flare sleeve and high-low hem. And can we talk about these pants!? Not only is the print stunning, but they are extremely comfortable! I can’t wait to wear these pieces together in Palm Beach this week, but they also look great separately. Both items fit me TTS.
Lafayette Leggings
These are my first pair of Dudley Stephens leggings and they are amazing! The jersey fabric is incredibly soft and they’re not sheer at all. I love pairing them with the Greenpoint Turtleneck or Mercer Turtleneck, classic accessories, and my favorite pair of woven mules (20% off with Tucker20). These leggings run a little big, so I would recommend sizing down.
Greenpoint Turtleneck
As much as I love the shorter Park Slope Turtleneck, this slightly longer style comes in a close second. The Greenpoint Turtleneck is a midi-length, falling between the Park Slope and Cobble Hill. It’s perfect to pair with leggings or to do a stylish front tuck with jeans. I’m wearing the cream color in terry fleece. It fits me TTS, but if between sizes I would size up.
Terry Fleece Versus Vello Fleece
This is one of the most commonly asked questions about Dudley Stephens. The vello fleece is most like the traditional fleece material that first comes to mind. It’s cozy, soft, warm, and great for cold environments. The terry fleece is a lighter fabric, similar to what you might find on a sweatshirt or soft robe. It is the perfect weight for warmer climates or a cool spring day. Dudley Stephens also now offers additional soft fabrics (all recycled) and has a wonderful fabric guide that explains each one.
How to Wash Dudley Stephens
I always wash my Dudley Stephens fleece inside out in cold or warm water with similar colors. I’ve found that washing them inside out keeps lint and other items from attaching to the fleece. I then hang them up to dry. Sometimes after they have air dried, I will run them in the dryer on a delicate cycle for 5 minutes just to give them a little fluff and soften them. They wash up incredibly well, a testament to the quality of the recycled fleece!
How to Style Dudley Stephens
One of the things I love most about Dudley Stephens is the endless ways to style their products. You can pair their fleece turtlenecks with leggings for school pickup, throw one over a tennis dress to meet up with friends, or tuck one into jeans with a belt for a casual date night look. And this is just one of their products, they are all such classic pieces! I’ve found that Dudley Stephens products are incredibly versatile, making them well worth the price point.
