My boys LOVE board games. They even did it after school as an activity in the spring. Board games teach all kind of lessons. They are great fun for the whole family. One of my favorite gifts to give is a board game, so that everyone can get in on the gift (:

Monopoly – This classic game of buying and selling properties is a favorite for our family. We have a couple different Monopoly games – including our own town monopoly, and star wars.
Scrabble – A game that challenges players to create words from letter tiles, Scrabble is a great way to improve vocabulary and spelling skills. My brother gave this to me a couple Christmas’s ago. I keep it on our coffee table because it’s so pretty.
Clue – In this mystery game, players must solve the murder of Mr. Boddy by using deductive reasoning and eliminating suspects. This is a fun one for people that love murder mysteries – aka, me (:
UNO – always in my travel bag, and a favorite for us to play together.
Settlers of Catan – A game of resource management and strategy, Settlers of Catan is a popular choice for families with older children. We have a couple of their expansion packs too. The boys love this game, and it takes hours!
Chess – My boys love to play chess against each other. a pretty chessboard is always out on our coffee table.
Beat the Parents – my kids love this game. They also really enjoy the part where we wager something (:
Carcassonne – Players build a medieval landscape with tiles in this tile-laying game that is easy to learn and fun to play.

Risk – A game of global domination, Risk is a classic strategy game that is best for families with older children.
