Nevis Travel Guide
Since our trip to FS Nevis in 2017, I have been recommending it ever since. The food, the people, the charm of the architecture, the natural beauty… honestly, could go on and on. I was relieved when I still loved it… maybe even more than we did on our 2017 trip. Six years later, and my kids have grown leaps and bounds. It’s a different trip for sure. We didn’t have grandparents come like last time, and the boys are at an easier stage. I can still remember last time Wesley being so tired by nap time, that for the first time in his life, he asked for me to take him to nap. While we don’t have naps to deal with, we have definitely ended the days pretty early. Tucking in around 9, exhausted from a full day of fun. I wanted to create a Nevis Travel Guide from our week stay here.
How to get to Nevis
Just like our trip to Harbour Island last year it’s a bit of a planes, taxi, boat situation. I remember someone saying that if it’s hard to get to, it’s usually a fantastic place. I tend to agree. We flew Tampa to Miami, then Miami to St. Kitts. From St Kitts you’ll go through customs, hop on a taxi to a marina. The taxi takes about 15 minutes. Then you’ll load a boat to go to the Four Seasons. I am sure all of the hotels on the island can help arrange this transportation. Once you are on the boat, you are offered rum punch, Ting, Carib, etc.
Where to Stay on Nevis
Four Seasons Nevis: For a family vacation, I really don’t think you can beat it! Which I went more into detail on this post. They have the hotel, and also residences you can rent.
Montpelier: This is where Princess Diana stayed back in the day with her boys. It’s so dreamy!
Golden Rock Inn: This is such a fantastic spot. It’s owned by artists Brice and Helen Marden, and the style is so funky and fun.
Mount Nevis: We didn’t visit this time, but have heard it’s a good one! Higher up on the mountain.
Where to Eat on Nevis
I think the food and flavors here are so good! With JBs work trip, the dinners on property were included, so we spent our dinners at FS. I think it’s great to have a mix though! So we went to the others for lunch.
Four Seasons has several options – On the Dune, Kasteway, Esquilina, and Mango. Mango is probably my favorite. Lots of bars, even one on the pier. Highly recommend enjoying a cocktail around sundown out there!
Bananas: This spot is delicious, and quite charming too.
Golden Rock Inn: Dreamy x10! get a sunset reservation.
Montpelier: You can even eat inside the old sugar mill for a super special occasion.
Sunshines: They are famous for their drink The Killer Bee. It packs quite a sting. They also have great fresh fish. We got to meet Sunshine this trip, and he is lovely.
What to do on Nevis
FS Nevis has a ton to do on property. Snorkeling (we saw turtles and tons of fish right off the shore), pickle ball, tennis, 3 pools, a wonderful spa … there is something for everyone.
Horseback riding. We didn’t get to do this on this trip, because I didn’t book it in time. But the Nevis Equestrian will help you book that.
Deep Sea fishing. Sadly this was rained out on us. We picked the wrong day to book!
Catamaran tour. A must do! We loved snorkeling just off St. Kitts!
funky monkey tour. We had quite the adventure this time. Would recommend getting a driver! But fun way to experience the island.
Cab driver tour. The cab drivers are so nice, and give you history while driving. They are so proud of their island, and it shows. We especially loved Clayton. If you ask the front desk for him, I bet they will be able to locate him!
Alexander Hamilton’s birthplace. There is a museum here as well. We love Hamilton, so this was a treat. Also great seeing the Museum of Nevis History. It won’t take you very long. Probably around 30 minutes.
A monkey golf cart tour. You can either go with a guide from the hotel, or take a golf cart on your own. We did that! hole 10 and 15 have a ton of monkeys. And it’s a fun ride as you weave in and out of the rainforest.
Scuba diving: jb loved going last time!
Is it Safe on Nevis
I personally felt quite safe, and we ventured off property every day. JBs work is quite cautious, and we were not given any warnings other than the usual ones.
Who would like Nevis
I think it’s got that “je ne sais quoi” about it. There’s just something about this charming island. To me, at least!
It’s kind of a wild place – donkeys, lambs, goats roam around all over the island. The people are kind and gracious. It has 66 churches on this small island, with only 12,000 people. It’s also super laidback. Obviously, I’m a big fan!
I think families and couples are ideal for this spot. Of course a fantastic girls trip or 40th birthday would be wonderful too!
