Skincare routine for 40’s
Once upon a time I was writing this blog, and I was only 26 when I first started. With baby skin! Now I’m in my 40s (41 to be exact), and have settled into a good routine. I won’t say it’s low maintenance at all. The goal for me is to age pretty gracefully. I don’t mind looking my age, but want to look my best but also still me.
BOTOX, DYSPORT, etc
Something hit me hard regarding aging when I turned 35, and I finally started getting some botox. I have a VERY expressive face. My forehead lines were starting to come through, I was no longer nursing, so I went for it. I also have a “five finger forehead” … meaning my forehead is big.
I’m not sure how much they have given me, as I always said I just want to look more awake than I really am. But still want to look myself! I do this a few times a year. This last time, I started using Dysport. It’s the first time I’ve paid attention to how many units. They did 50 units. I get this a little around my crows feet, and the rest is in my forehead.
I have lots of friends who use botox/dysport/etc… and plenty of friends that do not and still look great. I will say, I don’t love the thought of putting a toxin in my body. But here we are, vanity got the best of me!
I have not done filler before. I don’t plan on it for now. I am definitely a “sinker” (my facial lady said there are sinkers and saggers), so some volume would help me. But I think the unknown of how I’d look or if it would be obvious to everyone else, has me holding off.
LASERS
I do the BBL/Moxi with Glow with Leah a few times a year. Leah is very knowledgeable and always learning. I think this is one of the best things I have done for my skin. You do Moxi once a year, then you can do BBL a few times. My best tip is to get good and numb. It can be spicy! But 10000% worth it in my opinion.
I’m going to go into all of the devices and products I love below for glowing skin.
Cleanser
I first bought Elemis cleansing balm in a trial size, on a whim when I was leaving for Europe. I have since been hooked. My favorite is probably their fragrance free cleansing balm. It’s hydrating, while taking the make up or just the dirt of the day away. I love how a little can go a long way.
NEWA LASER
One of my favorite new tools is this compact NEWA laser. It helps boost collagen which in turn reduces wrinkles and skin firmness. It’s very easy to use as you just glide it over your skin a few minutes a day . I am excited to continue to use the NEWA on my neck too. a spot that needs attention! lol
A GOOD VITAMIN C
A good vitamin C Serum or cream is a must for me. I have tried all sorts, and my favorite is this Kat Burki vitamin C face cream. It is so moisturizing too! It’s expensive, but I think a little goes a long way.
Red LIght mask
I first bought a red light mask in 2019, that I’ve since passed on to my dad. I swear by them. Back in 2019, I was getting an ocassional pimple, and my red light mask helped heal them so much more quickly. When used consistently, you’ll see incredible results. It improves tone and texture, boosts collagen, and will give you a youthful glow. I love this new Current Body one I have as it wraps under your chin for a more secure fit.
MASKS I love
I’m a multitasking masker.
I always wear my Pixi eye patches in the morning. I even wear them to drop off, then the gym, and maybe they all think it’s a medical condition at this point, but it’s rare if anyone even says a thing! I have always been a puffer, especially under the eyes, and these help! I keep them in the fridge, so when I’m making my coffee I pop these on.
111 cryo depuffing mask is SO good. I loved this over the holidays when I was short on sleep and puffier than normal.
I also love these from amazon. They work the best if you can keep them on as long as possible!
Other masks I love: the resurfacing from tata harper, hydrating tata harper, Clarins Cryo, or Clarins Depuffing.
JAWLINE HELPER
I love how immediate the Ziip microcurrent device is on delivering results. It instantly lifts and reduces puffiness.
It also comes with an app, so you can follow different treatments tailored to your skin goals- lifting, brightening, or calming. I always use this before an event.
TINKLE RAZORS
I started going to dermaplaning appointments in 2018 and never looked back. Now I do a tinkle razor on my face before events or a photo shoot. It’s also supposed to help absorb your serums and creams.
DAY TIME MOISTURIZER
I love that this does double duty and truly hydrates my skin during the day. SPF 30, and super moisturizing is a win-win.
Typing all of this out makes me feel really high maintenance. But it also saves me time on not doing my make up as much. Most of the time, I am bare faced with just skincare on.
