Something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now is share products regularly with y’all that give back. It’s so true the saying that -you vote with EVERY dollar. I’ve never felt that to be more true than lately. So I’m striving to be a good steward over here.
First up for this little series, is Sseko Designs!
Have you heard of Sseko (pronounced “say-ko”) Designs?
Talk about a brand that gives back.
Sseko Designs is an ethical fashion brand that works with women in Uganda. They believe that we can use fashion to empower women and end the cycle of poverty. Some stats for y’all – Of the 15 million women in Uganda, 70% of them live below the poverty line, and only 2% of them will make it to college. (how much do I take my own degrees for granted)!
Sseko {say-ko} began four
years ago with three women making sandals with interchangeable
fabric straps. Now they
employ over 40 women, we’ve enabled 30 women to attend university and are
partnering with
mission-aligned organizations to create beautiful products that are helping to end extreme poverty
by creating jobs and sustainable economies across Africa.
Handcrafted in East Africa,
this collection is creating stories of hope, dignity and empowerment.
Throughout September and October, they’ll be sharing stories of their 2013 Sseko
graduates, who are now entering their first year at University (!!!!), on their blog and
Facebook page. They are so proud of them and can’t wait to see what their future
brings with an education.
