Fern Tips
We started our ferns out in the spring. Â April of this year to be exact. Â In the past we had kumquats out there. Â Before that it was Fiddle Leaf fig trees. Â All have been re-homed either indoors our outside elsewhere. Â My parents gave me those for birthdays. Â Side note: Â a plant is one of the best gifts out there. Â I love thinking of the person that gave it to me, and see how it grows from year to year. Â Anyway, I wasn’t sure how the ferns were going to handle Florida summer. Â The fiddle leaf fig trees did great, the kumquats did OK. Â But the ferns have really exceeded my expectation. Â Even while we were gone for most of the summer. Â The front porch gets pretty good sun for most of the day, but it does have a good period of time when it’s covered by shade. Â But here’s the secret: Â Automation. Â We love the raindrip system for automatically watering them daily. Â It depends on how easy it is to hide the cords. Â But in our case it’s pretty easy. Â Especially with the right urn. Â You can always use a little “touch/retouch” app to take the cord away easily if you need them for photos. Â Otherwise, it’s life, and I think people would rather see your cord than a dead plant (:
