We went to Boca Grande to kick off Spring Break. I don’t know why but once again, just like last year, and the year before, I’m scrambling for plans. Next year I vow to actually plan it all beforehand. Though it is nice to not have plans, sleep in (the boys are still asleep as I type, which is a rare occurrence!), and go where the wind blows us. Plus, any day spent at Boca Grande, is a very very good day.
Boca Grande is pretty much my favorite little beach island in Florida … don’t tell Anna Maria. I just love how beautiful everything is, quaint, approachable – it’s a little dream world. If you find yourself with kids on Boca Grande, here are a few ideas to fill your days.
- The Library. This time we didn’t get to go here, but I love it so much! You can see more from this old post (blast from the past!) or this one. This is where my sister got engaged. I also planned a welcome party here. It is hands down the prettiest library I’ve ever been to. They have storytime once a week, and it’s excellent!
- They also have a little thrift store – Boca Grande Bargains. I love popping in there. Hours are only a couple mornings a week, so if you find it open, pop in. There’s a little toy section the kids can busy themselves while you look for treasures.
- Rent a golf cart. This is probably first order of business (: It’s the best way to get around. I love all of the different designed ones!
- If you brought your walking shoes, walk up the lighthouse. You can see the whole island from up there.
- The catholic church is nearly always open. I love popping in there. It is so beautiful!
- Go on a hunt for Iguanas. We almost always find them, and the boys always have their eagle eyes open to them.
- They have a wonderful community center on the island and are always hosting children-friendly events. Like this youth fishing tournement that will be in April. I would check there if you are visiting!
- The beach! it goes without saying how beautiful and pristine the beaches are. If you are staying at the Inn, you’ll have access to the beach club.
- Ice cream at The Loose Caboose. Delicious Homemade ice cream!
- Stop by Hudson’s grocery! even if it’s just for a picture in front of the pink pump. They have all of the essentials, and lots of quick grab and eat items. They also have some picnic tables to the side of it.
- Where to eat? I think everywhere on the island is pretty child friendly. My favorite place is The Temptation. I’ve taken kids there. But probably best enjoyed on a date night (: South Beach Bar and Grill on the other end of the island has tables right on the beach. Which is convenient for keeping them occupied. The Inn Bakery has so many delicious quick items for breakfast!
- They have an adorable park in front of the Gasparilla Inn & Club. It’s fully shaded by trees, so a nice break from too much sun. There’s a larger one at the school down the street, but that one isn’t completely covered.
- Banyan street is a gorgeous one that you at the very least need to drive down. My boys like to climb and play on them!
- Port Boca Grande has another lighthouse (though not as steep as the one mid island) and it also has a museum. There is a beach there, but I don’t recommend it with kids because the current tends to be much stronger. But it’s a fun place for a walk!
- Charter a boat from Whidden’s Marina and go fishing! They also have a pig, and a couple goats there.
Can you tell I love the place! Have you been? I 100% recommend a trip if you haven’t! Is there anything we need to do next trip?
