Sunday Reset

My Sunday Reset Routine for a Calm in the chaos Week Ahead

I have been seeing so many friends on social lately sharing their sunday reset! I love when I get to do a Sunday reset!   It’s not as often as I’d like these days because sports has us traveling the state most weekends – sometimes in opposite directions.  Even Saturday, I was up before dawn taking one of my sons to Orlando, then making the dreaded i4 trip home after a team lunch.  I wouldn’t trade it though … there’s something really special about the one on one time, that was rare before this new season we’re in.

But yesterday it happened!  I got to have a perfect little Sunday reset.  We didn’t have any soccer games for once, and we were able to have a calm morning, go to church as a family, and the boys had a planned activity that afternoon.

Morning Ritual: Coffee, a  little reflection, and Lists

Yesterday the morning started off lazy, with coffee in bed while the boys slept in. I immediately put on this mask (I keep mine in the fridge).  Did a little work while the mask marinated, and sipped my coffee. There’s something so comforting to me about my family all snuggled up at home.

I then gathered my paper calendar, compared what was going on in my phone calendar, and put a plan together for the coming week.  It’s a busy one!

While I utilize my notes in my phone for running lists and all sorts of projects.  Nothing compares to a paper list for me.  Why is physically crossing something off of a list one of the best feelings?!  Most of the ones I use are from Joy Creative (I have a code – SARAHT10).

I’m one of those people that think writing my week down is going to perform some sort of magic and make my week a little easier.  Without fail, it’s always a little crazy and hectic.  But, it would surely be more so if I didn’t… right?!  lol.

I was delighted when I look at my calendars for Monday and saw NOTHING on my personal calendar.  I’m sure we can all relate, that’s a rarity!

Laundry.  So much Laundry.

It sometimes doesn’t seem possible how much laundry we produce.  I guess it’s also that the boys are growing so much too.  Gone are the teeny tiny jon jons, and hello to sportwear/ jerseys / school clothes galore.  Sports jerseys are sacred (I joke a little), but really you cannot lose any of it, or else you will be searching and searching.

I keep drawers with these organizers in each of their rooms for two drawers.  One drawer is everything they need for school days, down to belts.  The other drawer is all of their practice jerseys, real jerseys, and the socks (that keep go missing).

Even though I stay on top of laundry, by Sunday there’s always so much more!  I do go by the rule of one load (at minimum) a morning.  Sometimes I delay start a wash before I go to sleep, so it’s ready to go in the dryer.  But that just keeps me going, not really on top of it.

Sheets and duvets are generally washed once a week on Sundays or a home admin day like today.  But yesterday, I stripped the beds before we left for church and voila, ready for the dryer when we returned.

taking stock in the fridge + meal planning

If you’ve been following for a while, you know I love a meal plan.  It really has changed our life since I started around 2018.  In the past I have been a bit rigid about meal planning… and it would really throw me off if things went by the wayside, or we grabbed dinner out.  Now, I know to be nimble.  Especially in this season of life.  Still, most of the time, the meal plan works!  And when it doesn’t, I try to just use it for something for lunch the next day to avoid any waste.

But back to the Sunday reset.  I like to look at my fridge.  Clean out my fridge.  See what I need.  Then get to tackling a delivery from Whole Foods.  I am so dramatic to say this, but when Whole Foods started delivering… it changed my life.  Wow, so many life changes, all surrounding food.  No surprise!  Before this though, I was pretty rigid.  I would plan my meals, drive 30+ minutes to get the groceries, drive home, and then clean all of the produce and organize the fridge.  I would sometimes miss out on boat trips with the family, or something else fun, or just catching up on life.  Now, I can schedule it, and it’s giving me at least an hour back of my life.  Best $10 a month we pay.

Once I get the groceries, I get to washing and chopping.  If I have veggies chopped and ready to go, it’s so much easier to toss on top of a soup or make a quick salad throughout the week.

I tend to plan Monday-Thursday dinners + one big salad and one soup for easy lunches.  I also make the boys lunches, so I try to keep that as varied as possible, though I tend to rely on old favorites.  Our breakfasts are usually the same.  Either savory – cottage cheese, salad, eggs, or sweet – like a smoothie.  But dinners are my hyper fixation.   I will repeat the ones my kids love, especially if I want a really easy week. I totally get it if planning dinners is not your thing, but I love dinners at home with my family.  I love when the kids linger, and tell us all of their stories from the day.  It’s something JB and I both had growing up, and we cherish this time together.

I usually pull recipes from The Defined Dish or Ambitious Kitchen online, but I have a couple favorite cookbooks I pull from here.  I simply write on a weekly notepad the page # or print out a recipe.

Tidying

I’m not the girl that deep cleans, as we have wonderful people that do that for us once a week.  But I do like to turn on the robot vacuum, tidy spaces that have become cluttered during the week, and declutter the house a bit.  It feels so good to start on this note at the beginning of the week!

A Little Self-Care Before the Week Begins

Whether it’s a walk around the neighborhood (on Sundays I really love to do this with JB),  peloton, a sauna blanket session (sarahtucker20) or a whole everything shower, or even sneaking away for a massage.  A little self-care sets my whole week up for success.  Self care is also all about a good nights sleep, so just winding down with a bath, reading, or curling up with my family watching something is a great way to end the busy week.  Often times, my parents host Sunday dinners with all of the cousins, and it’s really the best way to have a night off from cooking and spend some quality time with family!  Whatever helps us all slow down on a Sunday, is a win in my book!
