everything in these photos and every room in my house is a mix of old and new. Goodwill and thrift stores mixed with things I purchased brand new. I love the thrill of the hunt. My mom used to say, and still says, that I am so speedy while shopping. I don’t have a ton of patience for it surprisingly, and am in and out. I scan the room, see if there’s anything that catches my eye, and get out of there. Here’s what I’m always on the hunt for when I’m in a thrift store:
Here are a few things I am always on the lookout for, and can rarely resist: — I am linking them on etsy in case you want to hunt over there!
- Florentine Trays – I usually stack them, and I love the patina they develop.
- Blue and white
- Old silver trophies
- champagne buckets
- trays – for breakfast in bed, or spoiling overnight guests, or for stacking books.
- bamboo in ceramic
- gold and brass in shapes I love
- I often look at tablecloths. My favorite one that people ask about a lot was $2.25 (you can see here). They are usually pressed and ready to go, and great prices.
- Culver glassware
- old books. I have found the most beautiful books for coffee tables, or childrens books with vintage illustrations and covers (and sweet messages too!).
- spongewear
- lamps and fun finials (just change out the lampshade and you’re good to go)
- big seashells or coral
If you are local, my favorite shops are:
- Hospital Thrift
- Kingberry Estate Finds
- Palmetto Village Thrift
- Goodwill, salvation army, etc…I really can’t say one is much better than the next because you truly never know what you’ll find.
Happy Hunting!
