I’m finally getting to sharing our Rome trip (Venice upcoming!) from our spring break. If you’d like to see everything I wore, I have that post here. Â
I traveled with our family – myself, my husband, and our tween and teen sons. We all had a fantastic trip! To me, anywhere in Italy is always a fantastic idea.Â
WHY ROME WITH KIDS
JB and I went as newlyweds, actually to a wedding inside the Vatican. Dreamy! Then we brought John back when he was two. A very different trip! But we have always loved Rome. It’s one of my favorite big cities. The history, style, food, and vibes are incredible. We thought their ages (11 & 13) would be perfect for exploring Rome. Â
Where to stay in ROME
I could write a book about Casa Monti. I was in design heaven the entire time we were there. I love the size of this hotel. Boutique but with plenty of amenities. Every inch was perfection! I loved their staff. So kind and helpful throughout our stay. We enjoyed the spa (even with the kids- we used the hot tub and we were the only ones up there). Turn down included the cutest slippers, an adorable silk eye mask, and even a melatonin gummy. We loved eating there, and had quite a few meals there. It was just so good, and easy with kids. JB and I could enjoy dinner a little longer if they needed to head up to the room to chill a bit. JB and I loved going to the rooftop bar for an Aperol Spritz one evening as the sun was setting. Magical! Their breakfast is included in the rate and is fantastic. I also love the area. You’re located by a lot of the hot spots, but still tucked away in a residential area with plenty of locals. I give Casa Monti the highest ratings!! Thank you to my sister, Molly Boyd, for staying and discovering it last year. I
Rome Activities
There’s no shortage of things to do in Rome for families. We’re the kind of travelers that like a lot going on in our schedule.Â
SOCCER in front of the colleseumÂ
The first thing we always do when we travel to Europe is look into buying a soccer ball. You can travel with them, but just remember to bring a needle to let the air out. All soccer balls need to be deflated to fly. We love to buy one as a souvenir. Â
Go to the park right by the Colleseum. 100 Via Delle Terme di Tito is the address. The kids were awesome here, and invited the boys to play. They always had a game going. Just like our soccer centric trip to England, we visited the soccer field multiple times. The view of the colleseum in the background is EPIC. Â
PASTA, RAVIOLI, and Tiramisu COOKING CLASS
We did a group class with Eat & Walk Italy. We all enjoyed it! Then you eat your ravioli, pasta, and tiramisu at the end of class. A fun activity to do with your family. Â
FIat TOUR AROUND ROME
Casa Monti’s concierge recommended Facile Tours. They were great! I would book all of our activities through them next time. We loved zipping around Rome, learning more history, and tasting throughout the city. The guides knew all of the best spots, were incredibly kind with the boys, and shared so much history with us. It was the perfect thing to do to reorient ourselves to Rome on that first day there. You’ll go to all the spots you’d like – we went to The Pantheon, Borghese Gardens, Trevi ,and more!
Colleseum Tour
We found someone on Get Your Guide. Which helped us skip the line and explore. He was very knowledgeable. I loved our guide, but he was not the boys favorite. Lol – he was better for adults. Which is why I’m linking to the general Get Your guide! I would recommend if you have a limited time though in getting a guide so you can skip the Queue. Â
Gladiator SchoolÂ
Gruppo Storico Romano was so up the kids alley! We met friends here, and laughed the whole time. It takes about two hours, and your kids will be a little tired by the end! Our Gladiator was very into character, which made it fun for all of us. It was educational for the kids too! And adults! I didn’t know that much about gladiators before this. Â

Dining in ROME
We went with the flow a little more than usual on reservations here. But it’s hard to go wrong with homemade pizza and pasta. Though it would be nice to have it more firmed up before hand. Traveling with our sons ages, we try to only do one sit down meal a day. Â
La Nuova Piazzetta – easy delicious pizza near Casa Monti
Casa Monti – We kept eating here because it was just so good! John still talks about their filet. Â
Taverna Urbana – Delicious! Get the artichokes!
Le Jardin – I ended up cancelling this reservation as the times were tricky with everything else we had going on. It looks stunning and I’ve only heard lovely things. Next time! Â
Giolotti Rome – You have to go here to get Gelato! Our friends recommended it, and they were right … it is “gelato heaven!”Â
Sant Eutachio Caffee – Delicious coffee. we brought some back for our parents! Â
Emma – Maybe a tourist trap! TBD! but the food was delicious. Particularly the pizza with arugula! Â
Rome is always a good idea
I know they have a lot of pick pocket action. So definitely bring a purse and keep it closeby. But we felt safe there and enjoyed every minute! Â
