During the boys spring break we decided to go up and stay on Disney property to enjoy the pool and resort. We rarely get to do just that because we are usually so preoccupied and exhausted after the parks. Our passes weren’t valid that week, due to it being a high traffic week for lots of spring breaks, so we knew we wouldn’t be headed to the parks. We got a good deal on Disney’s Yacht Club, and headed up for a night (we’re about an hour and 45 minutes away) around noon, arriving at two. A couple people asked me what I thought about the resort and so I thought I’d give you a review in case you are ever considering staying. We also considered Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort too since they have pirate rooms the boys would love. But quite a few people told me not to do it right now due to the resort being under construction, and particularly close to the location of the pirate rooms. People also said the pirate room are far from everything else.
Location! I loved being next to Disney’s boardwalk. If we were going to Epcot or Hollywood Studios it would have been perfect. But the boardwalk is a lot of fun – with games for the boys to play, fair food, street performers, and there was even a movie on the lawn there.
Our room overlooked the woods, and we saw a family of ducks, and a couple bunnies out there. I love how well manicured their lawns are!
The pool. The boys loved the Pirate Ship look of the slide. There’s a smaller slide along the backend of it – the boys went down it probably 50 times. Then there was the taller one the boys went down about three times. JB went down first and then each boy would go down. They loved both. I love the sand bottom pools. I wish all pools were sand bottomed. Both boys couldn’t get enough of playing in the sand. It’s zero entry here, and only gets to be a couple feet deep so it’s perfect for little ones.
The pool is shared by the beach club. Since we generally stay at Saratoga Springs when we are on property, and a few other times at Animal Kingdom Lodge, I was surprised the pool was so busy. Maybe that’s because it’s a shared pool? It was super crowded that when we tried to go on the lazy river, we couldn’t get a raft. But again this was Spring Break, so maybe it was just extra busy.
The big downside for us was that we could hear people in the room above us … literally someone going to the bathroom and flushing. We could also hear every person walking outside of our room, and the room next to us. I was really shocked by this! Maybe it was the location of our room? Not sure but if you are a light sleeper bring a couple noise makers. It didn’t disturb the boys sleep but we were up a little later than normal.
It still didn’t ruin our trip but just something to know in case you decide to book. Maybe you can request a quiet room.
The next morning we rode the four person bike around the lake. That’s a good work out, ha! We also went to Minnie’s beach bash breakfast which was super cute. The boys loved the characters like always.
I love the style of the yacht club – all that chinoiserie pots and blue! We had a great quick overnight (:
