Today I’d love to help you with gifts for Mother in law ‘s / Grandma / Mother / lady that feels like a mother!  I feel like I’m trying to cover all of the bases because many of these could be for you too!  The essence of a good gift to me is really drilling down on who they are and what they like.  Thinking – what would delight and surprise them?!  What tidbit did you tuck away that they needed or wanted?  What hobbies are they interested in right now?

I don’t really subscribe to the thought that the best gift is the most expensive.  But I guess that’s unfair as I’m not super into designer stuff.  Still, I think the best gifts are the most thoughtful; where they know they were thought of, and not just an after thought.

I think it was this year that I started my MIL gift guides.  Since then I’ve posted one every year.  They are always a big hit!

This mother/mother in law is playful, she’s got pictures of her grandchildren everywhere in frames, she travels quite a bit, she always has great olive oil and fresh bread, she uses old fashioned things like salt cellars on the table, she grows microgreens to put on her toast in the morning, if she’s out of her house she is wearing a pretty shade of lipstick, she loves tapers, mood lighting, and her door is always open.

Tips for buying for your Mother in law or mother

• If you’re worried about sizing, consider a poncho or a one size fits all cashmere wrap.
• Do some research – ask some questions about what they’ve been up to, listen up for clues for the perfect gift
• If you have kids, enlist their help!  Even if it’s a card or a handprint ornament for their Christmas tree.
• Enlist your husband for ideas!
