Sea Island Itinerary with kids

SEA ISLAND WITH KIDS

Right after we got home from Europe this summer (which I still need to do a recap of that!) we had a night at home, and then we headed back out to Sea Island.  This was a trip JB earned with his work.  A couple other EJ trips – here, here, here, here.

I had been to Sea Island a couple other times, most recently for the southern c.  It’s part of my 10 southeast resorts that I love!  And also been in the area for a Garden & Gun feature a few years ago.  I love the landscape of the golden isles.  All of the mossy oaks, the marsh, the wildlife… it can turn you into a poet.  It’s beautiful!  Sea Island is a stunningly beautiful privately owned resort located in the southeastern coast of Georgia.  About an hour from Jacksonville.  It has a mix of old world and southern charm.  I love it!

There is SO much to do on Sea Island.  Whether you are looking for a couples trip, or a family trip.  I’m going to share our itinerary for what we did for this trip to Sea Island with kids.  But you could easily modify it – lean into golf/spa more for a couples trip.

Day one:

We drove in.  There is an airport about 45 minutes away.  But it made more sense for us to drive.  We made it just in time for their afternoon refreshments.  Which is everyday at The Cloister from 3-5.  There’s tea, champagne, Coca Cola, and lots of treats including some delicious cookies.  It’s a nice time to get a snack, and enjoy the beauty of the Cloister.  Afterwards we got settled in, and had dinner with JB’s work.  It’s always a fun time on these family trips, as there are SO many kids.  My boys have a ball.

DAY TWO:

JB had a meeting that morning and I joined for a quick spousal one as well.  Then I checked the boys into Surf Camp for a couple hours.  They had a private Lesson.  I know Surfing is not necessarily synonymous with Georgia, but the boys loved the instructor and enjoyed their time.  While the boys were settled in surf camp, JB and I went to their beautiful spa. Which also has indoor pools, and an outdoor mineral hot tub.   I had a wonderful facial, but JB just did a day pass.  We met up for lunch in the atrium.  Their spa is a top 5 spa for me, for sure.  It’s gorgeous, with a lot to explore.  We swam that afternoon at the pool after the spa.  That evening we ate at Southern Tide.  Which was recently revamped.  It’s got a fun vibe to it, and we loved eating outside.  Which I was shocked as it was August in Georgia.  But they have the fans blowing, and the ocean breeze.   After dinner JB and I grabbed a Summer Bri’s by the beach.  It’s a delicious gin drink I can 100% recommend.  The boys played on the playground and in the sand, and then we had to hit up the free arcade for some Golden Tee..  We were all still recovering from jet lag a bit, so we got to bed early each night.

DAY THREE:

We enjoyed room service and took it easy that morning before we went Horseback riding along the marsh.  We all enjoyed this.  Though I’d say to go earlier if you’re visiting in summer, so it’s a little cooler.  But still, we had a great time.  I had Tally the horse – she was a sweetie.  After lunch at the pool, we went to Wonderland, which is their iconic ice cream shop. That evening we moved to The Oak Room for dinner at their sister resort, The Lodge.  We enjoyed dinner, and then headed outside for the bagpiper. I am partly Scottish, so really love bagpipes.  We did the 18 hole putting course – even if you don’t love golf, this is not to be missed!  We headed back and enjoyed some Bocce Ball before an epic rainstorm came down.

DAY FOUR:

We booked a fishing charter early that morning.  The captains are great, and you are bound to catch some fish.  We caught a lot of Croakers and sharks.  We had lunch at The River Bar before we headed to Sea Strike Bowling.  One of my favorite bowling alleys!   You could also grab dinner/lunch here.  Great spot for that.  We rented bikes afterward, and loved exploring the neighborhood.  We enjoyed dinner with JB’s work colleagues, and called it a night.

DAY FIVE:

The boys had archery that morning.  And we had breakfast at Tavola.  I visited the spa one last time.  Then we checked out 🙁 and then headed to Southern Soul BBQ on our way out.  So good!  a must!

HELPFUL TIPS IF YOU VISIT SEA ISLAND WITH YOUR FAMILY

  1. It’s wise to book everything as soon as possible – restaurants, activities- they all fill up fast.
  2. In the same vein, also remember to cancel 24 hours beforehand as they abide by a strict cancelation policy.
  3. Where to stay?  I’ve stayed at the beach and also at the Cloister.  I think The Cloister is iconic, but if I had younger kids being near the beach would have come in handy.
  4. You can just do the Day pass for the spa if you’re not interested in getting a treatment. Like I mentioned above, it’s a great spa.  So many amenities and just incredibly relaxing.
  5. There are complimentary coffee and pastries every morning by the Solarium inside the Cloister.  Saves you a little $.  Coffee is good!  The Solarium is also not to be missed.  The love birds are precious.
  6. The library has a ton of books if you’d like to check one out.  It’s also a great spot for chess. Any time we were waiting on shuttles, my boys ran in to play a game.
  7. Which brings me to shuttles!  They run often, but it’s wise to make sure you reserve them.  So call down or let the front desk know when you need one.  Especially if you are headed to The Lodge.
  8. We weren’t there on a BINGO night, but everyone that has done it says it is not to be missed.  Another one you need to sign up for, and quick!
  9. They have guided sea turtle walks in the morning, but you can also head out to the beach early and try to sneak a peek on your own.  So special!
  10.  If you are a golfer, make sure the course is open when you’re visiting.  Unfortunately, the seaside course was undergoing maintenance while we were visiting.  Which just means we have to come back (:
  11. Check the dress code for each restaurant.  They range, and it also changes by the season.
  12. Additionally, check age requirements.  There are a few restaurants we did not go to because they have a minimum age restriction.
