gin and tonic recipe

{outdoor pillows c/o wayfair}

If I’m going to have a drink, it’s generally wine.   I love the time it takes to sip it slowly and enjoy it with someone else, usually my husband/fam/girlfriends.  But when the weather heats up I find a gin and tonic so refreshing.  I first discovered them when my friend Crissy and her family was staying with us over New Years 2017.  Our husbands took our oldest boys to a hockey game, and we were with our littles.  We put our younger boys to bed, she taught me how to mix  a gin and tonic together, was as silly as we always are together, and then weren’t fast behind our babies to bed.  I think we saw 9pm.  But that had me hooked!  Then my dad and mom told me how they used to love them when visiting my aunts and uncles in new orleans in their twenties.  So when they come in town, it’s always G & T’s.  They love Bombay Sapphire, but Crissy introduced me to Hendrick’s Gin, and I tried the best G&T at the four seasons Orlando that used St. Augustine Gin.  That’s the extent of my gin tasting, but they’re all good.

Here’s a simple G&T recipe if you want to branch out this summer:

  1. Muddle Three mint leaves in a highball glass.  We have fresh mint growing off our kitchen… it’s pretty easy to keep alive even when I’m neglecting it.
  2. Add Ice as you like it.  I like a lot of ice!
  3. One shot of gin
  4. a splash of Rose’s Lime Juice – my dad swears by this touch.
  5. Fill the rest of the glass with tonic water
  6. Squeeze lime in.
  7. Add some fresh Mint for garnish

Enjoy the perfect gin & tonic!  My favorite refreshing cocktail pool or beach side.  The perfect Gin & Tonic
